Course Objectives
  • Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of music theory, including notation, harmony, melody, part writing and composition
  • Students will become familiar with notation and sequencing software
  • Students will be introduced to simple recording devices and synthesizers
  • Students will be introduced to basic piano skills

Course Requirements and Materials
  • Students will come prepared for class with all materials every day
  • Students will respect the rules, teacher, other classmates, and the facility
  • Students will contribute regularly during class discussions

Grading Procedures
  • Homework (20%)
  • Quizzes (15%)
  • Projects (25%)
  • Unit Exams (20%)
  • Class Contribution (10%)
  • Notebook Checks (10%)
Policies
  • All work MUST be done in pencil.
  • All homework, notebooks, and projects will be due at the beginning of the period.
  • Late assignments will not be accepted. All work must be made up within three days of returning to school.
  • Extra handouts will be available in the filing cabinet.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to make up work. Students will have an appropriate amount of time to make up work; however, after that time, the student will be penalized for missing or late work.
  • All quizzes and exams need to be made up.
